Auditions

Because both of our actors decided to withdraw from the shooting of the video, we decided to find new people who would fit the criteria. Thus, my partner and I decided it would be wiser to hold auditions for the role of the girl, mainly because the storyline is told from the girl’s perspective; hence we have to make sure that the actor playing the girl is fit for the role.

I therefore decided to audition Aleksandra Lipinska. Before the audition, I made sure to explain the storyline of the video, as well as the emotions of the main character. Because the storyline touches on an extremely touching subject – the breakup of a couple – I had to make sure that Aleksandra would empathize with the character. To do so, we talked about relationships, and presented her to the 5 stages of loss (Denial/Isolation, Anger, Bargaining, Depression and Acceptance).

After discussing about the storyline, I presented Aleksandra to the lyrics of the song we are going to use for the music video. To get her used to it, I decided to sing with her in order to make her feel more relaxed about the situation.

Finally, I decided to make Aleksandra play the opening of the video, which consists of the protagonist packing her bag and going out of the room. Although I did not have time to audition her for other parts of the the storyline, we find her suited for the role mainly because of her facial expression-which I believe is very emotional and truly shows the pain that the protagonist is going through.

Team Meeting 2

During this meeting, we began discussing whether we found the suitable actors for our music video. As I was assigned with finding the protagonist girl, I expressed my desire to audition the role, as I felt the actress playing the protagonist has to be really good at presenting her emotions(mostly because the protagonist is going through a rather emotional situation). Therefore, I decided to hold an audition on the 4th of November with a friend who agreed to try for the role in order to see if she is suitable and also to get her acquainted with the role. As for my partner, she also told me that she found a boy that could play the role of our protagonist’s boyfriend. Aside of discussing about the actors, we also decided for a day in which we should start filming and both negotiated for the following Saturday on 9th of November; this is because we found it more convenient to film during the weekend as it would be less stressful. Last but not least, we also discussed whether to get the DSLR cameras or regular cameras. While pondering this decision, we balanced which one would be more convenient, and concluded that we should use the DSLR. The reason why we chose the DSLR was because we were going to have night shoots during which a HD camera would behave better than a regular camera.
